Reports in South Africa has confirmed that the South African indigenes who are responsible for the violent attack on Nigerians seeking green pastures in Durban and other areas have been arrested and arraigned in South African Court on Monday, January 22 .
The Nigerian Mission in South Africa report that the Consular officers from the Nigerian Consulate General in Johannesburg and the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria were in attendance at the Durban high court to witness the proceedings.
The suspected policemen were arraigned in court and the case was adjourned till Monday 29 January.
The policemen were not grant bail and remanded in prison custody.
In a statement by the Consul General, the late Okori was killed on Friday in Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal Province, South Africa.
Mr Godwin Adams who is the Nigeria Consul General in Johannesburg, South Africa said ” We condemn in strong terms the violent attack and we call on the South African authorities to look into the matter and put it to an end. We also urge Nigerians to continue to abide by the laws and rules that governs this state. All hands are on deck to deliver justice to the family of the deceased”.
He also assured that the investigation will unravel the cause of the death of another Nigerian who was killed in Rustenburg, Northwest Province, South Africa, on January 20, 2018.
“We want to appeal to Nigerians here in South Africa not to take law into their hands as everything is under control and those involved will not go unpunished,” he said.
